It's one of those things where you have to balance what's most important to you as appearance, handling, ride varies based on wheel size. Cars these days had been styled to play off larger wheels and 18" wheels look undersized even on compact vehicles such as a Golf R. However we know that 18's are going to ride better and in a lot of cases make for a better handling car. Personally I'm fine with 18's for winter but like a larger wheel for summer.
