so based on the chain of events you've described, if the issue is in fact related to the seats, anyone should be able to replicate this by simply unplugging their driver's seat connector and then putting the car into reverse? if that's the case i can do it on my car and confirm if i do or do not get the camera code. TBH i am betting it will be not.

That's it, I think like you did: anyone would have seen this problem and reported it, so that's why I also think like you a separate issue appeared but why dit it appear at the same time? A mystery! Is there a wire near the center armrest, between the center console and the seats, under the carpet that could have been moved or pinched during the installation? That's the only area where we worked.
I'll go directly to BMW and see with my tech chief. To see the full code, he has to see the car, plug ISTA and get the car in reverse, as the code disappears when the car is shut down.
