Answering my own question - seems dealers (in Ontario) will now "play ball" and accomodate a "private sale" that is facilitated by the dealer, that nets a lease payoff to BMW FS and the equity (buyer sale price - payoff to BMW FS) conveyed to the lessee/seller.
Obviously dealers would prefer to keep this profit for themselves for lazy owners, but it seems they're willing to play ball in an environment where lease rates are 8-9%.
