First time I've heard that this topic is a sensitive one. I thought it was well established that UV exposure at best ages your skin (google trucker arm) and at worst causes melanoma. Of course some people are more susceptible than others based on pigmentation, genetics, etc. But better safe than sorry IMO.

May I ask what ailment(s) were helped by UV exposure? I know some animals require it for survival (for example my pet turtle) but I am not aware of human need for UV.
