Personally I think it has to do with the (cheating) air sensors trick in the plenum .
The sensors are fooling with the incoming (so said colder) air temps and the PU will get more fuel ..
"More fuel = More Power = Run hotter"
I'm convinced Mercedes shot in their own foot !
So yeah , the Mercedes warp-speed is really hot !

This is exactly what it must add up to, those cheat plenum sensors are squeezing the block to the limit and maybe a little beyond hence the replacements.
The final ECU setting for the race if at maximum boost will be a big risk for the MIB boys.
